What You Will Do at ODM:

Primary Technology: Snowflake Architecture, Enterprise Data Engineering, and Platform Development

Job Overview:

The Ohio Department of Medicaid (ODM) is seeking a highly skilled Lead Snowflake Data Engineer with advanced Snowflake and enterprise data engineering expertise to drive the design, development, and optimization of our modern data platform. This role is ideal for a technical leader who thrives in designing scalable architectures, improving data reliability, and enabling analytics across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Designs, builds, and optimizes Snowflake data architectures, including tables, views, materialized views, and Dynamic Tables.
  • Implements and maintains Snowflake security models (RBAC, column-level, row-level security).
  • Leads performance tuning using clustering strategies, warehouse sizing, and query optimization.
  • Develops ELT/ETL pipelines and support medallion-layered data architecture.
  • Manages schema changes, CI/CD deployments, and automation of data workflows.
  • Analyzes business requirements and translates them into scalable data models and technical designs.
  • Creates and maintains technical documentation, standards, and architecture artifacts.
  • Oversees testing, validation, and performance assessments for platform enhancements.
  • Troubleshoots production issues and ensures environment readiness for updates.
  • Provides technical mentorship and guidance to engineers and project teams.

Qualifications

60 mos. combined work experience in any combination of the following: providing solutions design, developing project plans with project manager or recommending approach through defining tasks and/or leading meetings relating to programs for computer applications including 12 mos. work experience in the primary technology as specified by the agency position description & job posting.

-Or completion of associate core program in computer science or information systems; 42 mos. combined work experience in any combination of the following: providing solutions design, developing project plans with project manager or recommending approach through defining tasks and/or leading meetings relating to programs for computer applications including 12 mos. work experience in the primary technology as specified by the agency position description & job posting.

-Or completion of undergraduate core program in computer science or information systems; 36 mos. combined work experience in any combination of the following: providing solutions design, developing project plans with project manager or recommending approach through defining tasks and/or leading meetings relating to programs for computer applications including 12 mos. work experience in the primary technology as specified by the agency position description & job posting.

-Or equivalent of minimum class qualifications for employment noted above. Supplemental Information

The Ohio Department of Medicaid does not provide employment-based visa sponsorship.

On call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Required to carry a cellular phone as assigned. Required to work occasional overtime as assigned.

Travel required, as needed. Must provide own transportation. Or, in order to operate a state vehicle, you must have a valid driver's license from state of residence.
