As a Sr Counsel you will provide a wide range of legal counsel and support services (including commercial, transactional, and regulatory) to multiple business units. Supports Valero’s commercial operations (the transportation, storage, purchase, sale, and trading of both refinery feedstocks and finished petroleum products).

  • Draft, review, negotiate, and provide analysis and interpretation of a variety of agreements on behalf of designated client groups, with a focus on commercial transactions.
  • Provide comprehensive legal support to business groups involved in the transportation (via marine, rail, pipeline, truck, etc.), storage, purchase, sale, and trading of refinery feedstocks and finished petroleum product at bulk and wholesale levels.
  • Advise commercial, supply, trading, refining, marketing, logistics, operations, business development, and procurement teams on contractual rights, obligations, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Identify, evaluate, and mitigate legal, regulatory, operational, financial, and reputational risks associated with commercial transactions and strategic business initiatives.
  • Advise on compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations affecting commercial operations.

This position is salaried exempt status, which means you are not eligible for overtime pay.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or higher level degree in a related field required.
  • Law degree required.
  • Admitted to the practice of law in the relevant state or be otherwise eligible to practice law in such state required.
  • 8 years of legal practice experience required.
  • Able and willing to work on-site, in-person at the Valero San Antonio location, required.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience in relevant function with another major public corporation or a law firm preferred.
