Position Summary:

The Transportation Aide/CNA is responsible for providing safe, reliable, and compassionate transportation for Independent Living, Assisted Living, and Health Care Center residents to and from local and, when necessary, out-of-town medical appointments and healthcare-related services.

In addition to transportation responsibilities, this position provides support to the clinic and nursing team, assists residents with pharmacy and personal shopping needs, and promotes a safe, respectful, and positive experience for residents and their families.

Essential Job Functions:

• Support the Mission, Values and Vision of LifeSpire of Virginia
• Transports residents to and from medical appointments, locally and out of town, when necessary. Stays with residents if they cannot be left unattended.
• Transport residents to and from the hospital for outpatient testing and inpatient stays, when appropriate and approved by the Clinic Manager or her designee.
• Transport laboratory specimens, as needed, to local hospitals.
• Responsible for picking up residents' medication at local pharmacies, and doing personal shopping for Assisted Living and Health Care residents, as needed, every Wednesday.
• Assists, when available, with onsite physician visits, including obtaining vital signs, and assisting residents in and out of exam rooms.
• Assists clinic coordinator when able, including recording medical appointments in appointment book, filling out appointment slips for residents, and assisting with medical record filing.

Working Hours:

• Hours vary. Approximately 40 hours per week. Some night, weekend and holiday hours may be required.

Qualifications:

• Current unencumbered license as a Certified Nursing Assistant in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
• CPR, First Aid, and AED certification within 60 days of hire.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must be able meet the terms of the Community Driving Policy.
• Demonstrated skill and/or a minimum of two years prior driving experience.
• Ability to work as scheduled by the Clinic Manager or AL Administrator, which may include some evening, weekend, and holiday hours as needed. Normal schedule is Monday through Friday.
• Ability to provide safe transportation of long-term care residents.
• Must have good verbal communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to interact in a positive manner with residents.
• Ability to effectively communicate with residents, families, supervisors, and employees.
• Knowledge/experience in long-term gerontological nursing care.
