The City of Raleigh is seeking an Events Planner for Dix Park. This individual will be a key member of the Program and Events Team. This role will be responsible for end-to-end event planning, budget management, and staff management. Key responsibilities include overseeing event management, collaborating with user groups to plan and execute events, supervising staff, delivering outstanding customer service to both internal and external user groups, managing budgets, coordinating the planning and execution of programs and events, and ensuring compliance with safety and risk management policies and procedures.

Regular night and weekend work is required with this position.

Examples of duties

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

  • Plan, organize logistics, and manage event operations, overseeing resource scheduling, staffing, and production coordination. Serve as the lead event planner for the Dix Park team and working all Dix Park hosted events (4-8 annually).
  • Handle administrative event management tasks, including preparing and updating schedules, conducting planning meetings, preparing estimates and work orders, addressing issues, and communicating with relevant stakeholders.
  • Coordinate and implement programs and events that align with the City’s, department’s, and park’s strategic goals. Ensure adherence to safety and risk management policies.
  • Plans and manages annual operating budgets for Dix Park programs and events. This includes budgeting, monitoring expenditures, and ensuring financial efficiency.
  • Supervise part-time staff working programs and events including conducting performance evaluations, coordinating training, and implementing hiring, discipline, and termination procedures.
  • Responds to inquiries, concerns, or complaints; collaborates with internal and external stakeholders; and provides subject matter expertise and consultation.
  • Performs other job-related tasks as assigned including but not limited to being accessible after-hours to support staff, emergency situations and inclement weather responsibilities.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Associate's Degree in Technical Theatre Production, Recreation, Public Administration, Event Management, or related field; 1 to 3 years' experience in technical theatre production, recreation, event management, or related field

OR

Any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted

Licensing and Certifications:

  • Valid North Carolina Class C Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5 years in professional parks and recreation event planning and team management
  • CPR/First Aid/AED Certified or the ability to obtain certification

Work Environment and Physical Effort:
Medium: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Work Environment:
Work is typically performed in an office or similar environment or an outdoor environment. Employees may occasionally work in and around vehicles.

Work Exposures:
Employees may occasionally be exposures to individuals who are hostile or irate and extreme heat (above 100 degrees).
