Georgia-Pacific is in search of an Environmental Engineer to join our environmental team to strengthen the environmental compliance & stewardship capability at our Consumer Products operations located in Pennington, AL (Naheola). This role is home based out of the Pennington, AL area, with potential travel to other regional facilities as necessary.

The Environmental Engineer will support the Naheola operation environmental programs consistent with our Stewardship & Compliance Principle to achieve our Vision. The position requires strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide variety of audiences. The successful candidate will be self-motivated with strong analytical skills, exhibit sound decision-making and have proficient organizational skills to efficiently balance multiple priorities.

This position will report to the Facility’s Environmental Manager will work closely with other environmental team members, environmental peers, and other capability teams across the region and the organization to leverage best practices and knowledge to drive the highest value for the company.

What You Will Do

  • Leverage technology enablers and best practices to systematically drive the environmental programs (waste, water, and air) to be more resilient, consistent, verifiable, efficient and effective.
  • Build solid working relationships with internal and external stakeholders (including regulatory agencies). Effectively partner with operations teams to meet their environmental obligations.
  • Develop knowledge of mill processes and their impact on environmental performance.
  • Assist the facility environmental manager with compliance programs to meet requirements with various air, water and waste regulations that could include: CEMS, LDAR, NPDES, BMP, SPCC, FRP, industrial and construction storm water permitting, wetlands, non-hazardous/hazardous waste, universal waste, recycling and beneficial use.
  • Assist with meeting field verifications of air, waste and water regulatory compliance obligations. (For example – SPCC inspection follow-ups, Stormwater inspections, CEMS audits, etc.)
  • Create and implement mobile inspections to meet water and waste compliance obligations.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, Environmental Management, Environmental Science, or a related field
  • Environmental regulatory experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment with a water, waste, or air compliance focus

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Experience in environmental programs in a large manufacturing environment
  • Pulp and paper process or manufacturing experience
  • Experience managing industrial wastewater treatment facilities
  • Experience with Hazardous/Universal Waste Management
  • Experience analyzing process or environmental data trends
  • Experience with (Internet of Themes) IOT devices and mobile inspection platforms
  • Experience with PI Process Book
