Radiology Practitioner Assistant (RPA) / Physician Assistant (PA)
Under the supervision and direction of the attending Radiologist, and in accordance with applicable licensure, certification, and scope of practice guidelines, the Radiology Practitioner Assistant (RPA) or Physician Assistant (PA) functions as an advanced practice provider, exercising clinical judgment and autonomy in patient assessment, management, and care coordination. The RPA/PA supports the delivery of comprehensive diagnostic and interventional radiology services while ensuring high-quality, patient-centered care.
Key Responsibilities:
Interventional Radiology Support: Assist radiologists in performing a variety of diagnostic and interventional procedures, including ultrasound-guided procedures, fluoroscopic studies, biopsies, drain placements, and other image-guided interventions. Responsibilities may also include conducting patient consultations and providing post-procedure follow-up care.
Patient Assessment and Care: Obtain and review relevant medical histories, assess patient conditions, explain procedures, prepare and position patients for imaging and interventions, and monitor patient status throughout procedures to ensure safety and comfort.
Clinical Decision-Making: Utilize advanced clinical knowledge and judgment to assess, manage, and coordinate patient care within established protocols and under radiologist oversight.
Safety and Regulatory Compliance: Adhere to radiation safety standards, infection prevention protocols, accreditation requirements, and organizational policies to maintain a safe environment for patients, staff, and providers.
Documentation and Care Coordination: Maintain accurate and timely medical records, facilitate scheduling and workflow management, and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to support efficient patient care delivery.
Interprofessional Collaboration: Partner closely with radiologists, technologists, nurses, advanced practice providers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless diagnostic and interventional imaging services.
Advanced Imaging Analysis: Analyze and evaluate 3D imaging studies to assess tumor response to treatment using specialized software platforms, including the MINT software system.
Education
Master's Degree Graduate of a Certification Board for Radiology Practitioners Assistants (CBRPA) approved program for Radiology Physician Extenders Required or
Master's Degree Graduate of an approved Physician Assistant Program RequiredExperience
1 year experience as a Radiology Practitioner Assistant Preferred or
1 year experience as Physician Assistant PreferredLicenses
Advanced Cardiac Life Support Required
Amer Reg Radiologic Technlgst Required
