Nurse Practice Professional - CNS/APRN/Doctorate (Pediatric)

The Nurse Practice Professional (NPP) performs an advanced role in the delivery of nursing care to meet the needs of the patients to maintain health and recover from illness. The NPP functions autonomously and in collaboration with the health care team and patient/family to provide advanced clinical practice, education, consultation, research, and leadership.

This is a part time (0.8FTE, 64 hours per pay period) benefit earning position that will work with nursing practice issues in the Pediatric specialties. Examples include pressure injury prevention, falls, delirium, medication safety, and more.

The NPP follows the ANA Standards of Nursing Practice for Registered Nurses and Advanced Practice Registered Nurses. In addition to these functions and depending on the administrative and clinical needs of the organization, the NPP functions as clinician, educator, consultant, researcher and leader.

Clinical

· Serves as a clinical nursing expert and resource to nursing and medical staff

· Investigates and implements evidence-based practices

· Monitors resource utilization for high-quality, cost-effective care

· Works closely with physicians and departments to deliver coordinated care.

· Works with multidisciplinary team to develop quality monitors to measure patients’ outcomes and program performance

· Collaborates with members of the health care team to coordinate the care of patients with complex disease processes or issues across the continuum of care

· Participates in performance improvement activities.

Education

· Participates in ongoing educational activities to expand advanced clinical knowledge and enhance role performance

· Assesses ongoing staff competence and collaborates on development of educational activities to improve nursing care to specific patient population

· Serves as a resource for the community to provide public education

· Utilizes current research, scientific literature and advanced practice knowledge when developing and providing education

Consultation

· Assists nursing and medical staff with complex or complicated patients

· Provides consultation regarding patient care to clinical and/or patient care areas

· Leads interdisciplinary groups in designing and implementing innovative alternative solutions that address system problems and/or patient care issues occurring across the full continuum of care

Research

· Participates in clinical research for program as required

· Collaborates with colleagues and other health care team members in identifying, developing, implementing and utilizing research findings

· Disseminates relevant research findings through practice, education and consultation.

Leadership

· Collaborates with the multi-disciplinary team to develop, implement and evaluate resources for specialty patients

· Facilitates communication and collaboration with multiple disciplines to enhance program growth and development

· Monitors outcomes and resource utilization for specialty patients in measuring quality and cost effectiveness of care provided

· Represents HHS and leads the organizational initiatives in community events in specialty nursing care

· Participates in meeting standards for accreditation issues occurring across the full continuum of care

Qualifications

Minimum Education/ Work Experience

  • Five (5) or more years of specialty area experience as an RN or APRN
  • Advanced practice RN graduate studies from an accredited school of nursing with emphasis in specialty area OR able to complete program within two years

  • DNP or PhD in nursing

Preferred Qualifications

  • Pediatric experience
  • Experience as a Clinical Nurse Specialist, Nurse Practitioner, Certified Nurse Midwife
  • Certification in the specialty

License/ Certifications

  • Possession of a valid license as a Registered Nurse issued by the state of Minnesota
  • Licensure in state of Minnesota as an Advanced Practice RN (current or able to license at the completion of a program)
