Human Resources Officer

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Estate Manager (with a dotted reporting line to the HR Manager) and managing the HR Field Assistant, the Human Resources Officer will play a key role in implementing HR strategies that support employee engagement, enablement, compliance, and business performance.

Key Performance Outputs

Payroll Administration

  • Maintain accurate employee records on Farm Costing Solutions (FCS) to ensure correct payroll processing.
  • Verify daily clock-ins and obtain manager sign-off.
  • Prepare payroll data for processing in SAGE Payroll.
  • Review payroll outputs and ensure accurate payslip distribution.
  • Resolve payroll queries and payment discrepancies.
  • Liaise with Payroll Office to ensure timely salary processing.

Recruitment & Employee Induction

  • Coordinate the recruitment and onboarding process for wage employees.
  • Prepare employment contracts and ensure all documentation is complete and compliant.
  • Facilitate employee induction sessions and maintain training records.
  • Support improvements to the employee induction programme.

Training & Employment Equity

  • Coordinate skills development and training initiatives in collaboration with the OZblu Academy.
  • Assist with training needs analysis for employees.
  • Capture and prepare information for Workplace Skills Plan (WSP) and Employment Equity submissions.
  • Coordinate Skills Committee and Employment Equity meetings.

Industrial Relations

  • Provide guidance to management on labour legislation and HR policies.
  • Ensure consistent application of HR policies and procedures.
  • Manage basic disciplinary processes and hearings.
  • Assist with CCMA documentation and proceedings.
  • Coordinate union visits and act as the site’s HR liaison.

General HR Support

  • Assist employees with HR queries relating to policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate Health and Safety meetings and maintain records.
  • Support operational HR initiatives and complete ad-hoc HR projects as required

Requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • Diploma or Degree in Human Resource Management, Industrial Relations or a related field
  • 3–5 years’ experience in a Human Resources role

Knowledge & Technical Skills

  • Knowledge of South African labour legislation including BCEA, LRA, Skills Development and Employment Equity Acts
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Experience with SAGE Payroll and Farm Costing Solutions (FCS) will be advantageous
