Lead: Editorial Services

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following key performance areas:

  • Lead, define, plan and allocate work for the Editorial Services team, ensuring that specified turnaround times and deadlines are met.
  • Lead the strategic editorial planning process and manage the annual editorial calendar.
  • Compile publication production schedules for planned SARB Group publications in consultation with SARB departments and stakeholders across the publishing value chain, and align editorial capacity with delivery timelines.
  • Prioritise outputs in the editorial queue, with supporting input from SARB departments and the Communications Division.
  • Write, rewrite, edit and proofread documents to ensure that they are coherent, consistent and error-free in terms of grammar, spelling and punctuation.
  • Coach, steer, motivate and supervise the outputs of the Editorial Services team, ensuring quality in execution and that work delivered reflects, protects and promotes the professional image and reputation of the SARB Group.
  • Review, maintain and update the SARB Style Guide and the editorial process and standards document.
  • Ensure compliance with the SARB Style Guide, the editorial process and standards document and the SARB Corporate Identity Manual.
  • Provide an English-language advisory and writing skills service to the SARB, including presenting on the application of the SARB Style Guide.
  • Refine and continually improve writing, editing and proofreading processes within the publishing value chain.
  • Build and maintain stakeholder relationships, displaying the ability to lead engagements with relevant stakeholders within the SARB Group.
  • Manage the performance and development of the Editorial Services team, including freelance editors.

The SARB offers remuneration and benefits commensurate with the level of the position and in line with the market. The level at which the successful applicant will be appointed will depend on his/her competence and experience.

Human Resources Department

  • a minimum of a Bachelors’ Degree (NQF 7) in English, Publishing, Media, Communications, Journalism or an equivalent specialisation; and
  • a minimum of six to eight years’ experience in a highly technical written communications (English) environment.
