Position Description
Kibali Gold Mine seeks to recruit a Project Civil Engineer for the ARK Project (Feasibility Study).The Project Civil Engineer will be responsible to provide professional civil engineering design and project management services for the feasibility study of the project.
You will be expected to align to the Barrick DNA and to operate within our mining assets with our best people teams. You will contribute in a safe and cost-effective manner to achieve targets in accordance with Mine Safety Standards, Policies and Procedures and ensure daily targets are met.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide guidance and technical support on civil and geotechnical engineering for the feasibility study of the project.
- Prepare engineering analyses, specifications, capital and operating cost estimates of key earthworks and civil packages.
- Provide input on civil engineering designs and monitor and ensure effective design, project controls, and quality.
- Perform a feasibility study for civil design by creating associated design criteria.
- Estimate CAPEX by identifying major civil work packages along with the associated earthworks, Geotech programme, purchasing cost and associated lead times.
- Prepare civil package scope of works, specifications, datasheets, requisitions and bid evaluations.
- Perform engineering calculations to support design decisions.
- Review possibilities for the optimization of the layout block plan and managing of all required services interfaces (SMPP, piping, EC&I, drainage, and trenches).
- Prepare, review and negotiate contracts.
- Plan and manage budgets.
- Develop a quality management system with associated quality control programs – specifically related to the civil construction packages.
- Provide direction on civil and earthworks packages with associated scopes and requirements to the suppliers based on specifications included in the procurement agreement.
- Ensure that manpower, equipment, tools, materials, and design necessary to support the project schedule will be available.
- Perform structural integrity assessments of critical civil structures currently installed on site.
- Review of 3D Modelling and manufacturing drawings data packs.
- Perform civil design verification in accordance with relevant international codes and standards.
- Review business cases for application for expenditure of capital.
- Stay abreast of developments in technology and find application of this technology on the operation to reduce costs, increase uptime and improve safety.
Qualification Requirements
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering.
- Registered Professional Engineer.
Experience and Skills Requirements
- Minimum of 8 years’ experience in Civil Engineering.
- Membership to an industry accredited civil engineering body such as The South African Institution of Civil Engineering (SAICE), The South African Institute of Steel Construction (SAISC) or similar will be advantages.
- Experience in the mining industry, with a focus on feasibility studies and capital project execution.
- Computer Skills – must have strong computer skills and proficient in Microsoft Office software (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Projects, and Outlook). Prior working experience with structural design, modelling and engineering software packages (Prokon, Strand 7, Auto Desk Inventor, Nastran etc)
- Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Knowledgeable and experienced with civil designs and construction with associated earthworks, and geotechnical investigation programmes.
