Job Summary

Finance Technology & Innovation is responsible for the financial reporting systems and processes that support total company reporting. This position helps to ensure that the Company’s general ledger and financial reporting tools are reliable, accessible and stable, that structures appropriately reflect business requirements, and that controls are in place to support the end-to-end process for finance platforms and applications.

The incumbent will be part of the Financial / Treasury Processes team working on projects involving new or existing applications and processes, providing steady state support, as well as assisting on-going operations. It will be their responsibility to provide leadership and support to the IFS Finance infrastructure users, spread across the multiple jurisdictions in which Manulife Financial carries on business.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Workforce Support

Act as a product and process knowledge resource and mentor to associates on the production floor

Their primary role is the management of the teams’ day to day operations. Delivering excellent customer service by highlighting client centricity. The role includes effective task delegation to team members in conjunction with the implementation of effective tasks monitoring process. Incumbent is also responsible for maintaining an effective communication process with Toronto counterpart for cohesiveness.

  • Business Support

Identify opportunities to improve processes and to increase scale efficiency. As business support, the incumbent will be expected to explore opportunities to expand services, interact professionally with clients and business areas to provide a high quality of service and lead the training on IFS tools, applications and processes to business users across the company.

  • Financial System Analysis and Control

Incumbent is expected to provide additional support in ensuring a controlled, reliable, accessible and stable financial reporting environment and support ad-hoc analysis to determine root cause of production problems, resolving critical issues and cases identified during operations and developing timely solutions.

  • Project Management

Lead testing by preparing required test plans/matrices and executing functional and system integration testing of the application. Manages small to medium initiatives (as required) according to the established project management methodologies. Creates and maintains thorough and accurate project documentation (including functional and technical design specifications) according to the project management methodologies.

Qualifications

  • Graduate with an accounting degree or comparable business experience
  • Good understanding of the end-to-end production environment, and the impact of changes to the reporting process, production schedule, and all the systems and applications supporting a financial reporting environment
  • Good understanding of ledger systems, good accounting knowledge and sensitive to reporting cycle
  • Strong management skills and able to develop professional relationship with peers and direct reports.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel (pivot tables, functions, etc.) and data marts)
  • Exceptional analytical, diagnostic and problem-solving skills
  • Fluency in English written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent presentation skills
