About the role

As a small team we all multitask. This role combines elements of a Compliance Technician and a Fire Alarm Technician and will focus on developing skills across both.

Building a strong fire alarm knowledge is important, but the role extends beyond SS2 and supports compliance across a broader range of fire safety specified systems.

Initially, you will focus on practical technical and compliance work.

We will support you to gain IQP registration across all specified systems we test through ongoing training and development.

Your responsibilities will include:

Completing annual inspections, compliance testing and system surveys across relevant fire safety specified systems.
Producing clear and accurate inspection reports, defect information and customer documentation.
Supporting Building Warrant of Fitness and IQP compliance requirements.
Supporting the preparation of quotations and remedial recommendations.
Undertaking servicing, fault-finding and selected remedial work within your areas of competence.
Participating in the after-hours on-call roster.
Helping maintain consistent technical, documentation and quality standards.
Working with customers, administrators, suppliers and other FSS branches.
Undertaking occasional travel outside Hawke’s Bay when required.
Working safely and supporting FSS health and safety procedures.

About you

We are looking for someone practical, technically capable and well organized. You will take pride in completing accurate compliance work, producing clear documentation and following jobs through properly.

This role is suited to a fire-protection technician who meets the following requirements and wants to build a long-term career in fire protection. However, we are open to hearing from people wanting to enter the industry for the first time.

At least three years’ hands-on experience as a fire alarm or fire compliance technician.
Strong technical experience in fire alarm servicing, testing, fault-finding or compliance.
Experience completing annual inspections or other specified systems compliance work.
Sound working knowledge of NZS 4512, the Building Act, compliance schedules, Building Warrants of Fitness and other relevant New Zealand requirements.
Knowledge of other fire protection systems and applicable New Zealand Standards would be advantageous.
The technical knowledge and industry experience required to hold, or work towards, IQP registration.
Good written reporting and compliance-documentation skills.
The ability to communicate confidently with customers and other technicians.
Sound computer skills, including Microsoft Office and industry-related systems.
A practical approach and willingness to remain involved in field-based technical work.
A commitment to safe work practices, quality workmanship and good customer service.
