Research Coordinator, Department of Emergency Medicine

The Department of Emergency Medicine at the Aga Khan University, Karachi, is the regional leader in establishing high-quality clinical service and academic programs. The current clinical facility consists of 60 beds, including a fast track, separate adult and paediatric emergency units, cardiac emergency, a clinical decision unit, resuscitation rooms, isolation rooms, and triage. The main Emergency Department (ED) provides care to over 75,000 patients a year. Most patients require complex medical and surgical/trauma care. In addition, the department supervises a satellite free-standing emergency department.

This is a grant-funded contractual position.

Responsibilities:

You will be responsible to:

• provide training to study staff in accordance with study protocols and guidelines
• ensure completeness, proper filing, and archiving of study data and documentation
• prepare and compile study progress reports and monthly project reports in collaboration with the Data Manager
• develop high-quality research proposals
• conduct research and actively contribute to publications
• coordinate IRB/ERC submissions, amendments, renewals, and closures
• ensure informed consent processes comply with applicable ethical standards
• maintain regulatory binders and ensure audit readiness
• collaborate with co-authors and supervisors to ensure the quality and accuracy of research outputs
• ensure compliance with journal guidelines and submission requirements
• manage all stages of the project to ensure timely completion and readiness for publication
• identify and track relevant national and international funding opportunities
• ensure compliance with funder and institutional requirements
• coordinate internal reviews and ensure timely submission of funding proposals.

Requirements:

You should have:

• MBBS degree with a research certification
• at least one year of experience in health research
• willingness to travel frequently to different locations to oversee quality assurance of departmental research projects and training of local staff
• highly organised and self-motivated with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• ability to work independently and as part of a team
• high level of integrity and commitment to research ethics
• excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
• strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
