Eaton’s ES AMER ARS PDCAD division is currently seeking a MVCA Lead Design Engineer.

This is a Full-Time role working onsite at our facility in Arden, NC.

The expected annual salary range for this role is $97000 - $143000 a year.

What you’ll do:

Responsible for the design of industry-leading medium voltage control components and assemblies. The Lead Design Engineer is responsible for performing a wide variety of engineering and technical tasks involving the application of engineering knowledge and the development of solutions to complex problems pertaining to products, materials, manufacturing processes, tests, and unique customer applications. Selects engineering techniques to solve problems and make design recommendations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Serves as the leader of cross-functional project design teams.
  • Directs preparation of appropriate documentation for assigned projects.
  • Ensures successful completion of assigned projects within the budgeted time and cost constraints.
  • Participates in defining engineering approaches including the planning and scheduling of work.
  • Executes all design, development, and related technical tasks required to maintain the product line.
  • Develops product designs that may require knowledge of spring-loaded mechanisms, and levers.
  • Initiates and prepares specifications for products, equipment, and processes while maintaining awareness and control of costs.
  • Develops and maintains detailed project schedules incorporating resource management and milestone deliverables.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of modeling and simulation tools for structural analysis, CFD or other thermal flow analysis
  • Has basic electrical understanding for electrical clearance, magnetic forces and relevant standards for MV class equipment
  • Contributes to organizational technical and business strategy.
  • Must be capable of writing articles for trade and technical publications, presenting papers and preparing patent disclosures.
  • Performs or leads team in design process tracking and execution – specifications, risk assessment, design quality assessment, design for manufacturing, design information control, design verification, and documentation – all in accordance with ISO and Eaton procedures and systems.
  • Support plant initiatives and cost improvement objectives.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related discipline from an accredited institution
  • 5+ years of Engineering experience in an industrial setting or manufacturing environment
  • No relocation is offered. Candidates must currently reside within a 75-mile radius of Arden, NC to be considered. Active-Duty Military are exempt from this geographical limitation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 3+ years of Medium Voltage Control design experience
  • Experience with power electronics or advanced control systems
  • Demonstrated ability to author technical articles for industry and trade publications, present engineering research or technical papers, and contribute to innovation efforts through the preparation of patent disclosures.
  • Qualified Electrical Worker (QEW) certification or demonstrated experience working safely with energized and de-energized electrical equipment, with a strong understanding of electrical safety practices, lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, arc flash protection, and applicable NFPA 70E and OSHA requirements.

Training:• Able to demonstrate an advanced proficiency in mechanical or electrical power conversion design principals and techniques.
• Experience conceptualizing, designing, simulating, and testing power electronics system integrating electronics hardware and embedded software.
• Knowledge of the interaction between power electronics, and surrounding systems such as internal storage, the power grid, motors, and generators.
• Create, configure, and disseminate system requirements for designs internal and external.
• Experience with process improvements toolsets into a highly engineered environment (could include: Lean, Six Sigma, Root cause analysis, etc.).
• Design, build, and test hardware to support prototype development.
• Evaluate and select power circuit topologies, circuit components for power electronics.
• Thorough knowledge of thermal considerations in power electronics designs.
• Demonstrate fluid communication skills, both verbal and written
• Possess sound problem solving skills.
• Possess adequate project management skills to direct the activities of project technicians for small to medium size projects.
• Posses the ability to analyze product failure issues sufficiently to drive them to root cause.

Additional Information:

• Willing to travel up to 10% to support manufacturing and product design issues.
