Summary

This position involves highly skilled work and supervisory leadership in the Department of Public Works. Work includes leading a crew in maintenance and repair activities for stormwater utilities, streets and grounds, support for special events, emergencies and severe weather. Examples of duties

• High School Diploma or GED
• 5-7 years of stormwater utility or road maintenance experience with crew leadership experience
• Experience performing maintenance and repair using asphalt, concrete, line painting, and thermo plastic
• Experience working under heavy traffic conditions and in the use and operation of all types of road maintenance equipment
• Experience training employees and completing staff evaluations
• Experience using computers and mobile devices and associated software such as Microsoft Office
• Class B Commercial Driver’s License with a safe driving record
• Certification in CPR/AED and First Aid or ability to obtain within six months of employment
• Confined Space certification or the ability to obtain within six months of employment
• VDOT Basic Work Zone Certification or the ability to obtain within six months of employment

Qualifications

• Experience in recognizing operating deficiencies in road repair equipment; experience with bids and contracts;
• Experience using software such as GIS and asset management for maintaining infrastructure and processing requests and work orders.
• Knowledge of applicable traffic laws, ordinances, regulations, boundaries, and proper operating techniques of heavy equipment
• Class A Commercial Driver’s License with tanker and air brake endorsements and a safe driving record
• VDOT Intermediate Work Zone and Flagger Certification
• Bilingual in English/Spanish
