Summary

The Town of Marana is seeking a Cultural Heritage Specialist to work in the Town Clerk’s Office. This is a full-time position and an exciting opportunity for someone with a passion for history and interested in contributing to the preservation of Marana’s unique heritage.

Expected Hiring Range:$20.08 - $24.59/ per hour

  • Placement within the salary range is dependent on direct experience, internal equity and/or budget.

Salary Range: $20.08 - $29.11/ per hour

Qualifications

  • Organize, preserve, and digitize archival materials; maintain the Town’s online archival catalog; manage heritage projects and coordinate with partners, support budgeting, purchasing, grant research, and documentation.
  • Conduct historical research; document the Town’s history and cultural resources; create interpretive and educational materials; present historical information in engaging, public-friendly manners.
  • Develop and oversee educational programs; manage the Local Legends program; create and coordinate exhibits and other learning materials; handle logistics, installation, promotion, and related communications.

Supplemental information

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Over one year of related experience.
  • Valid Arizona Driver License.
  • Ability to pass both the Town of Marana background check and a motor vehicle records check.

An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience that provides the desired knowledge, skills & abilities to successfully perform essential functions may be considered.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in history, public history, museums, cultural studies, historical preservation, archival management, education, public management, or a related discipline.
  • Strong knowledge of Town of Marana and regional history.
  • Experience in researching and writing articles, essays, and reports for general and specialized audiences; and demonstrated ability to perform research using various methods.
  • Experience with historic site management and administration, including exhibit or program development.
  • Experience with records management and archival theory, methods, and practice.
