Summary
The Work Package Planner supports field activities and spends a majority of time working with field leadership and QA/QC supporting construction on one medium to large-sized project. When formal work package implementation requirements are invoked by the quality program, this position develops work packages that are approved by project management. General work package content includes work steps, inspection forms, ITPs, and reference documents such as design documents, procedures, work travelers, inventory control forms, etc.
Roles and Responsibilities
Manages work planners and collaborates with various co-workers to ensure that all contractual requirements are incorporated into formal work packages including design documents, procedures, and work travelers, inventory control forms, etc. Teams with appropriate disciplines.
Supports Construction with the Management of Work Package Planning:
- Follows project work package development schedule and generates work package documents
- Gathers information needed to generate work packages from field leadership and QA/QC and works with departmental managers to approve and issue work packages.
- Conduct walk-downs with craft responsible for performing the work, subject matter experts (SMEs), and supervisors to coordinate their input during package development. Developed work packages will be applicable to nuclear construction.
- Assures that work packages are programmatically compliant, and reference applicable design documents, installation procedures, hold points, inventory controls, etc.
- Writes work packages in a manner in which requirements are clearly communicated to co-workers performing the work
- Collaborates with Engineering, Safety, and QA/QC assuring that identified hold points are incorporated into packages
- Works with Document Control to review controlled design documents over the project lifecycle and update work packages based on client generated contract changes

- Supports Superintendent and Field Engineers with incorporating Baker/Field generated changes into packages in order to optimize project performance
- Supports Document Control Manager with issuance and control of work packages
- Supports Systems Turnover Manager with project closeout by assuring that critical records and closeout documentation requirements are addressed in the work packages
Ensures a Safe Work Environment:
- Must be cognizant of all safety and quality procedures and regulations
- Sets example by following safety guidelines including but not limited to wearing PPE on jobs, staying aware of surroundings, etc.
- Attends and participates in Tool Box Talks and provides input for Safety Task Analysis
- Complies with proper safety procedures
Requirements
The Work Package Planner will possess the knowledge, skill, and/or ability in the following areas essential to perform the functions of the position.
Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree and 5 years’ of experience; or 10 years’ of construction related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Work Package Planner experience required.
- Nuclear or Power facility experiences preferred
- Ability to utilize Microsoft Office Products
Language / Communication Skills
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general design documents, technical and quality procedures, and government regulations
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and subcontractors
- Author concise work packages that include relevant engineerin, quality, and safety controls, to ensure correct sequencing, safe execution, and programmatic compliance of construction work.
- Good listening skills
Mathematical Skills
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions, geometry, trigonometry and interpolation to practical situations
Computer Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft software programs such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Interpersonal Skills
- Ability to work in a team environment

- Ability to respond to requests from multiple departments and prioritize work in support of overall project schedule
Reasoning Ability
- Ability to define problems, gather data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
Physical Demands
- Must be able to work in an office environment using computer equipment
- Must be able to visit job sites and visually assess progress
- Must have the ability to exert physical effort, handling average weight objects up to 20 pounds
Work Environment
- Work is primarily in an office environment, but involves exposure to outside weather and jobsite conditions
