Overview
The Supplier Diversity Office (SDO), an agency within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts’ Executive Office for Administration and Finance, is seeking a Marketing & Communications Intern to support the day-to-day work of the SDO’s Marketing and Communications team.
This internship offers an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in communications, social media, graphic design, and content development while supporting the SDO’s mission of serving diverse and small businesses throughout the Commonwealth.
The intern will work closely with the SDO’s Communications Director and collaborate with staff across the agency to develop engaging, audience-focused communications. Responsibilities will include creating and scheduling social media content, designing flyers and other promotional materials in Canva, and drafting and reviewing a variety of communications, including internal messages, newsletter content, and other outreach materials.
About the Supplier Diversity Office
The Supplier Diversity Office works to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in state contracting by supporting diverse and small businesses and connecting them with opportunities to do business with the Commonwealth.
The SDO certifies eligible minority-owned, women-owned, veteran-owned, service-disabled veteran-owned, disability-owned, LGBT-owned, and small businesses and works with Commonwealth agencies to advance supplier diversity.

Duties and Responsibilities
Duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Work closely with the SDO’s Communications Director and other SDO teams to identify communications needs and develop clear, engaging content for appropriate audiences.
- Draft and edit communications such as emails, newsletter articles, announcements, social media posts, and other outreach materials.
- Help plan, create, and schedule content for the SDO’s LinkedIn social media account.
- Create flyers, event materials, social media graphics, and other promotional materials using Canva.
- Assist with maintaining a consistent and professional voice and visual identity across SDO communications.
- Participate in internal meetings to learn about SDO programs, initiatives, events, and communications priorities.
- Help promote SDO programs, events, resources, and opportunities to diverse and small businesses throughout Massachusetts.
- Review communications and marketing materials for clarity, accuracy, grammar, and consistency.
- Provide general communications and marketing support for special projects and initiatives.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the SDO’s Communications Director.

The ideal candidate will:

- Be familiar with social media platforms, particularly LinkedIn, and have an interest in creating engaging digital content.
- Be organized, dependable, and motivated, with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple assignments.
- Be comfortable interacting professionally with colleagues, partners, and members of the public.
- Have an interest in graphic design and familiarity with Canva, or a willingness to learn.
- Demonstrate an interest in diversity, equity, and inclusion and in the mission of public service.
- Be customer-focused and able to work collaboratively and respectfully with people from a variety of backgrounds and experiences.
- Be comfortable using common workplace technology, including Microsoft Office applications.
- Be curious and adaptable, with the ability and willingness to learn new technology and digital tools.
- Demonstrate good judgment, initiative, and a willingness to learn and take on new responsibilities.
