At Siemens, we help organizations transform maintenance and operations through connected insights, AI-powered technology, and intelligent asset management solutions. Our software enables customers to manage the full lifecycle of assets, facilities, and infrastructure while improving efficiency, reducing risk, and optimizing long-term investments. By connecting data, people, and processes, we empower organizations to make smarter decisions, maximize asset performance, and achieve more resilient operations.
We are seeking an experienced Principal Data Platform Engineer (DPE) to lead the evolution of AMS’ database function from traditional DBA operations to a modern, cloud-native, automation-first database engineering capability. This is a player/coach role responsible for leading the DbOps team while also helping design and implement major database reliability, modernization, automation, and platform initiatives.
The successful candidate will combine deep database expertise with cloud engineering, reliability engineering, DevOps practices, AI-assisted operations, and strong people leadership. This role partners closely with Product, Engineering, Architecture, Security, SRE, and Cloud Operations to deliver reliable, secure, cost-effective, and scalable database platforms.
Core Responsibilities:
- Help modernize the DbOps practices, including prioritization, technical direction, and development.
- Adopt AI-assisted operations for predictive monitoring, performance insights, capacity forecasting, incident analysis, documentation, and migration acceleration.
- Report objectives, deliverables, risks, progress, and business outcomes to stakeholders and leadership.
- Develop database reliability practices, including availability, performance, observability, operational health, and customer-impact prevention.
- Build and mature self-service database capabilities that reduce manual dependency while maintaining security, governance, and standardization.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.
- 7–10 years of experience in database administration, engineering, reliability, or cloud database operations.
- Strong troubleshooting, incident response, analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience with CI/CD, source control, database deployment tools, and scripting/programming (PowerShell, Bash, Python; C# or Go is a plus).
- Experience with Database SRE/DBRE/DbOps/platform engineering and self-service database platforms.
- Experience with AI-assisted operations, monitoring, performance optimization, migrations, and code remediation.
- Experience leading database modernization, cloud migration, consolidation, or open-source adoption while aligning database strategy with business goals.
