Deputy Head of Preparatory Stage

Position Overview

The Deputy Head of Preparatory Stage will support the Head of Stage in the academic leadership, staff supervision, student welfare, and day-to-day management of the Preparatory Stage. The role focuses on maintaining high educational standards, supporting staff development, and ensuring a positive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

1. Academic Leadership

  • Support curriculum implementation and monitor teaching and learning quality.
  • Monitor student progress, assessment, and academic outcomes.
  • Work with teachers and coordinators to drive continuous improvement.

2. Staff Development and Supervision

  • Support teacher mentoring, performance management, and professional development.
  • Participate in lesson observations and staff appraisals.
  • Promote a collaborative and positive team culture.

3. Student Welfare and Discipline

  • Support student wellbeing, behavior, attendance, and discipline.
  • Ensure a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
  • Work with counselors, teachers, and parents to address student concerns.

4. Operational Support

  • Assist with the daily management and smooth operation of the stage.
  • Support the implementation of school policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to stage improvement plans and school-wide initiatives.

5. Parent Engagement

  • Maintain positive relationships with parents and support effective communication regarding students’ progress and wellbeing.
  • Participate in parent meetings and school events as required.

Reporting and Collaboration

  • Reports directly to the Head of Preparatory Stage.
  • Works closely with teachers, coordinators, counselors, parents, and school leadership.

Success Criteria

  • Improved teaching quality and student outcomes.
  • Effective staff supervision and development.
  • Positive student behavior and wellbeing.
  • Smooth and efficient stage operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or a relevant field.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant teaching and/or leadership experience.
  • Previous leadership or coordination experience in a school setting.
  • Strong understanding of curriculum, assessment, and student development.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lead and motivate teaching staff.
  • Commitment to student welfare, safeguarding, and inclusivity.
  • All appointments are conditional upon satisfactory police background checks and references.
