Janitor / Waste Truck Assistant

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the driver in carrying out daily waste collection routes safely and efficiently.
  • Collect and load waste from designated collection points.
  • Assist with the positioning, loading, and exchange of skip bins and Roll-on/Roll-off containers.
  • Ensure waste is loaded securely and prevent spillage during transportation.
  • Guide the driver during reversing, manoeuvring, and loading or unloading operations.
  • Assist in managing pedestrian and traffic safety around operating vehicles.
  • Ensure lifting and loading areas are clear of people and obstacles.
  • Assist with daily vehicle safety inspections and promptly report defects or hazards.
  • Clean and disinfect waste collection vehicles, equipment, and work areas.
  • Ensure tools and equipment are properly cleaned, maintained, and stored.
  • Report accidents, near misses, hazards, unsafe conditions and environmental incidents.
  • Maintain professional and respectful interactions with customers, residents and members of the public.
  • Report customer complaints and service-related issues to the supervisor.
  • Assist with route records, vehicle inspection checklists, cleaning logs, and other operational documentation.
  • Support emergency waste collection, special clean-ups, illegal dumping removal, and public sanitation activities.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: KCSE or equivalent qualification in the relevant field.
  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience in waste collection, sanitation, logistics, construction, or similar manual operations is preferred.
  • A valid Kenyan Heavy Commercial Driving Licence
