Join us as a Senior Software Engineer on the Website Starter Kit (WSK) team at Principal. This role is specially positioned within the organization to assist teams across Principal in producing secure, accessible, and scalable web experiences more efficiently. You will play a key role in merging reusable website foundations, cloud services, developer tooling, automation, and AI-enabled tools to generate outstanding benefits for our clients!

Role Description

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will collaborate with product teams, architects, designers, and platform engineers to develop and enhance solutions that improve developer experience, speed up delivery, and uphold enterprise standards. This role collaborates with the Delivery Manager / Senior Delivery Manager.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development and implementation of scalable, secure, and maintainable technical solutions aligned to business and platform requirements.
• Develop high-quality application and platform code while promoting engineering standards, guidelines, and code quality across the team.
• Drive technical execution by providing timely updates, identifying risks, and ensuring successful delivery of commitments.
• Champion agile delivery practices and contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering processes and development workflows.
• Serve as a technical mentor, offering guidance, coaching, and support to engineers throughout the team.
• Develop deep expertise in the platform, applications, and business domain to influence architectural and technical decisions.
• Fix and resolve complex production issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement balanced solutions.
• Lead efforts to improve reliability, scalability, performance, and operational excellence across supported applications and platforms.
• Champion automation and modernization projects to cut down on manual tasks, elevate developer experience, and raise operational efficiency.
• Serve as a domain expert for key platform capabilities, providing technical leadership and consultation to engineering and business partners.
• Foster collaboration through user documentation, build reviews, training, and community engagement across teams.
• Partner with architects, product teams, and collaborators to build platform roadmaps and deliver innovative, future-ready solutions.

Qualifications

Education

Graduate/Bachelor's degree (preferably in computer science, technology, or engineering) or equivalent experience.

We seek an engineer experienced in Drupal, modern front-end tools, and AWS cloud-native development who can provide scalable, secure, accessible, and AI-enabled digital experiences across the full software development lifecycle.

• Drupal development, theming, and CMS administration
• HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Node.js, and web component development
• AWS cloud and serverless application development
• Infrastructure as Code (AWS CDK/TypeScript)
• API build, integration, and event-driven architectures
• DynamoDB and NoSQL database build
• Cloud security (IAM, OAuth2) and DevOps/CI-CD practices
• GitHub Actions and modern software delivery workflows
• Monitoring, observability, and production support
• WCAG 2.2 accessibility standards
• AI-assisted development tools (GitHub Copilot, Drupal AI, Canvas AI)
