The Associate Director – Indirect tax (Corporate Functions) will lead and manage all tax matters for the KGS entities, including GST, legacy Service Tax matters, SEZ/STPI compliance, tax controversy management, and indirect tax advisory support to business and finance stakeholders. The role will drive compliance excellence, manage audits and assessments, support strategic business initiatives from an indirect tax perspective, and lead a team of tax professionals.

The role also includes coordination with external consultants, advisers, and regulatory authorities.

The Associate Director – Indirect tax will drive functional excellence, and collaborate closely with Finance, Legal, Operations, and Business Leadership.

A. Indirect Tax (GST, Service Tax, SEZ/STPI)

•Manage end-to-end GST compliance (registrations, returns, e-invoicing, reconciliations and audits).

•Oversee GST and Service Tax refunds, assessment and litigations

•Review GST positions and ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies.

•Drive process improvements and automation initiatives to strengthen the indirect tax control framework.

•Develop and maintain SOPs and governance mechanisms for indirect tax processes.

•Ensure complete SEZ, STPI / EOU compliance including filings, documentation, approvals and liaison with relevant authorities.

B. Tax Litigation & Representation

•Manage GST and legacy Service Tax audits, investigations, assessments, and litigation matters.

•Review and coordinate responses to notices, audit queries, and assessments and provide periodic updates to leadership

•Work closely with external advisors and legal counsel on litigation strategy and representation before tax authorities and appellate forums.

•Maintain oversight of open tax disputes and provide periodic updates to leadership

C. Tax Planning & Stakeholder Engagement

•Advise stakeholder on emerging tax risks, regulatory changes, and strategic tax planning.

•Present regular tax updates, risks and impacts to senior leadership on open matters

•Partner with business units to evaluate tax implications of new product offerings, and organizational restructurings.

D. Team Leadership & Governance

•Lead and mentor a team of tax professionals, creating a high-performance environment.

•Establish tax governance frameworks, internal controls, SOPs, and risk management mechanisms.

•Oversee automation and process improvements in tax reporting and compliance.

•Drive technical capability building and knowledge sharing within the team

E. Audit Coordination

•Manage statutory audit, internal audit, and group audit requirements pertaining to tax.

•Support financial statement disclosures and tax provisioning related to indirect taxes

Educational qualifications

Chartered Accountant (CA) is mandatory

Work experience

•8-10 years of post-qualification experience in Indirect Tax (GST, Service Tax, SEZ/STPI); ex–Big 4 or top-tier advisory background preferred.

•Experience in a multinational / shared service environment preferred.

•Demonstrated experience in managing large-scale GST compliance, audits, investigations, and litigation

•Proven track record in handling audits, assessments, litigation, and regulatory representation
