About our group:
The Cloud Systems and Services group at Seagate is developing storage software and firmware platforms for enterprise storage controllers. The team works on controller firmware, system software, storage management, and platform technologies that help deliver reliable, high-performance storage and server products.
About the role - you will:
- Learn and contribute to firmware development activities for storage controller platforms under the guidance of experienced engineers.
- Assist in developing, debugging, testing, and maintaining firmware modules related to RAID, SAS, OpenBMC, BIOS, storage management, and platform software.
- Understand how firmware requirements are translated into design, implementation, testing, and documentation.
- Support software design documentation, technical discussions, unit testing, code reviews, defect analysis, and issue resolution.
- Work with development tools and concepts such as C/C++, Linux, RTOS, device drivers, multi-threading, inter-process communication, scripting, Git, Jira, GDB, and IDEs such as Eclipse or equivalent tools.
- Participate in requirement discussions: Join customer or stakeholder calls to understand firmware-related requirements, clarify technical needs, and translate them into clear design and development inputs for implementation.
About you:
- You have strong programming fundamentals in C or C++.
- You have basic understanding of operating systems, computer architecture, data structures, embedded systems, or hardware-software interaction.
- You are interested in storage systems, server platforms, ARM or SOC-based systems, RTOS concepts, Linux user processes, device drivers, and debugging.
- You are curious, self-driven, analytical, and comfortable discussing technical problems with team members.
- You are a team player who communicates clearly, documents work effectively, and collaborates well in a product engineering environment.
Your experience includes:
- Academic project, coursework, or internship exposure in software design, embedded systems, firmware, RTOS, Linux, microcontrollers, device drivers, storage management, or system software.
- Exposure to C/C++, Python or bash scripting, Linux commands, debugging tools such as GDB, and source control or collaboration tools such as Git, SVN, Jira, or Crucible.
- Awareness of ARM processors, SOC concepts, DSP processors, assembly language, multi-threading, inter-process communication, and embedded application development will be helpful.
- Basic understanding or interest in storage and server product concepts, including RAID, SAS, OpenBMC, BIOS, and storage management interfaces.
- Awareness of protocols such as TCP/IP, I²C, PMBus, Redfish, or similar management and communication protocols is a plus.
