Your Job

As a Product Development Engineer – Connector Design, you will play a key role in developing innovative connector and connectivity solutions for industrial, automotive, and high-speed communication applications. You will lead product design activities from concept through production launch, collaborating with global cross-functional teams to deliver reliable, manufacturable, and customer-focused solutions. This role offers an opportunity to combine technical expertise, problem-solving, and customer engagement while contributing to Molex's next generation of electronic products.

Our Team

You will be part of the Connector Design Engineering team within Molex's Global Product Development organization. Our team partners closely with customers, manufacturing, quality, reliability, sales, and global engineering teams to create innovative connectivity solutions that enable a more connected world.

What You Will Do

  • Lead the design and development of connectors, cable assemblies, and networking products used in industrial and high-speed communication applications.
  • Translate customer requirements into technical solutions by establishing engineering assumptions, defining product requirements, and supporting project planning activities.
  • Drive product development activities through all phases of the development lifecycle, ensuring timely and successful product launches.
  • Develop robust designs through DFMEA, risk assessment methodologies, validation planning, and engineering analysis.
  • Collaborate with customers and cross-functional teams to provide technical guidance, resolve design challenges, and support successful project execution.
  • Create and review engineering documentation, manufacturing drawings, tolerance analyses, and design packages to ensure product quality and manufacturability.
  • Support prototype development, product validation, qualification testing, and analysis of test results to ensure product reliability and performance.
  • Partner with manufacturing, quality, suppliers, and global engineering teams to optimize designs, improve processes, and support new product introduction activities.
  • Lead technical discussions, design reviews, and customer presentations while effectively communicating project status, risks, and recommendations.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives for existing products, support issue resolution, and contribute to long-term product sustainability.
  • Apply structured problem-solving methodologies to identify root causes, implement corrective actions, and improve product performance.
  • Contribute to engineering excellence by sharing knowledge, mentoring junior engineers, and promoting best practices in product design and development.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 6+ years of experience in connector design, product design, or new product development within the electronics, industrial, automotive, or related industries.
  • Experience designing products that incorporate plastic, sheet metal, cast, and plated components.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling and 2D drafting tools, preferably Siemens NX (UG NX).
  • Experience with product development methodologies including DFMEA, GD&T, tolerance stack-up analysis, validation planning, and risk assessment.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams to develop and launch new products.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate technical concepts effectively.

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Experience with industrial communication, networking, high-speed connectivity, or automotive connector products.
  • Knowledge of APQP, PPAP, Design for Manufacturing (DFM), and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles.
  • Experience interpreting FEA results and applying engineering analyses to product development decisions.
  • Familiarity with problem-solving methodologies such as 8D, Fishbone Analysis, and Root Cause Analysis.
  • Knowledge of industry standards including IEC, UL, ISO, and related regulatory requirements.
  • Experience developing validation plans and analyzing qualification and reliability test data.
  • Exposure to Teamcenter, Polarion, or similar PLM and requirements management systems.
  • Experience working directly with customers, suppliers, and global engineering teams on new product development programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and influence technical decisions across cross-functional teams.
