Job Overview

The Software Development Competence Center (SWDEV CC) is responsible for delivering and governing enterprise application development services, ensuring high-quality, scalable, and maintainable software solutions across the organization. The team plays a critical role in driving digital innovation, system integration, application modernization, and software engineering best practices to support SHL Medical's global business operations and technology strategy.

The IT Software Engineer (SAP ABAP) is a key member of the SWDEV CC team within SHL Medical's global IT organization, responsible for designing, developing, enhancing, and maintaining SAP-based applications and technical solutions across regions. Acting as a technical expert in SAP ABAP development, this role collaborates closely with business stakeholders, functional analysts, solution architects, and project teams to deliver robust, scalable, and integrated solutions that support business processes and strategic initiatives. The role contributes to global implementations, application enhancements, system integrations, and continuous improvement activities while ensuring compliance with development standards, architectural guidelines, and software engineering best practices. Through technical expertise and innovation, this position helps establish sustainable SAP solutions, strengthen cross-regional collaboration, and enable scalable business operations at a global level.

Main Responsibilities

SAP ABAP Development & Technical Solution Design

• Design, develop, enhance, and maintain SAP ABAP-based applications, reports, interfaces, forms, workflows, and enhancements to support global business processes.
• Aiding SAP functional analyst translating business and functional requirements into robust technical designs and scalable SAP solutions aligned with enterprise architecture and development standards.
• Apply strong ABAP development practices, including code quality, performance optimization, maintainability, reusability, and appropriate technical documentation.

System Integration & Application Enhancement

• Develop and support SAP integrations with internal and external systems using appropriate SAP technologies, interfaces, APIs, and middleware patterns.
• Support global SAP implementation, roll-out, upgrade, and enhancement initiatives by delivering technical development, unit testing, defect resolution, and deployment support.
• Evaluate, estimate, and implement change requests in collaboration with functional analysts, solution architects, project teams, and business stakeholders.
• Contribute to application modernization and continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to simplify, automate, and standardize SAP technical solutions.

Technical Support, Troubleshooting & Quality Assurance

• Provide technical support for SAP application issues, including root cause analysis, debugging, performance analysis, and resolution of incidents and defects.
• Ensure developed solutions are properly tested, documented, and handed over to support teams and stakeholders in line with project and operational requirements.
• Collaborate with SAP functional analysts to validate end-to-end process flows, integration points, and business impacts before production deployment.

Software Engineering Governance & Cross-Regional Collaboration

• Follow and promote software engineering best practices, secure development principles, change management processes, and SAP development governance standards.
• Maintain strong collaboration with global IT teams, regional business units, external partners, and vendors to support prioritization and coordinated delivery of SAP development work.
• Contribute to knowledge sharing, technical documentation, reusable development assets, and capability building within the SWDEV CC team.
• Support sustainable global SAP operations by ensuring solutions are maintainable, compliant, scalable, and aligned with SHL Medical's technology strategy

Required Skills & Qualifications

Mandatory Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information management, related discipline, or equivalent experience.
• Solid hands-on experience in SAP ABAP development, including reports, interfaces, enhancements, forms, workflows, debugging, and performance optimization.
• Good understanding of SAP application architecture and the ability to translate functional requirements into reliable, scalable, and maintainable technical solutions.
• Experience developing and supporting system integrations between SAP and other enterprise applications using appropriate SAP interface technologies.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills, with a quality-oriented mindset and the ability to work collaboratively with functional analysts, project teams, and business stakeholders.
Desirable Requirements:
• Experience with SAP Fiori, UI5, or related SAP front-end development technologies.
• Experience with IDoc, BAPI, RFC, OData, APIs, or other SAP integration technologies.
• Exposure to front-end development concepts and modern user experience design for enterprise applications.
• Knowledge of AI-augmented development practices or emerging AI capabilities that can improve productivity, code quality, testing, or documentation in SAP development.

Language Skills

Mandatory (Must):

• Fluent in Mandarin Chinese.
• Fluent in English
