About the role
The Network Engineering Specialist delivers technical engineering activities across mobile or fixed network domains, implementing, operating, and improving network solutions that are resilient, observable, secure, and automation ready.
They apply strong engineering judgement, modern practices, and data?driven methods to improve reliability and reduce operational effort. The role collaborates across teams, challenges technical constraints, upholds engineering standards, and contributes to continuous improvement while developing deeper expertise and influence within the organisation.
What you’ll be doing
- Deliver system design, build, testing, validation, maintenance, and support across mobile or fixed network domains, ensuring solutions are operable by design with clear resilience, observability, performance, health, and security expectations.
- Implement new and enhanced network technologies across physical, virtual, and cloud connected environments, ensuring alignment with engineering standards and effective integration with Operations Support Systems (OSS).
- Apply and uphold network standards across wireless, local, edge, cloud connected, and core network domains, embedding resilience, operability, supportability, and regulated?domain compliance into solutions.
- Perform installation, configuration, integration, and testing of network hardware and software, collaborating early with operations to ensure readiness, operability, and clear support pathways.
- Contribute to technology lifecycle, risk, and modernisation assessments, using data from network performance, observability tooling, platform currency, and operational trends to inform roadmap decisions.
- Support implementation of core and platform security controls, including configuration baselines, access controls, resilience patterns, and vulnerability management, ensuring operational and regulatory expectations are met.
- Produce high quality technical documentation, runbooks, knowledge transfer materials, and training content, ensuring clarity, accuracy, automation alignment, and effective operational handover.
- Provide operational support across on?premises, cloud connected, and edge environments, contributing to incident resolution and service restoration through clear, timely communication.
- Respond to escalated technical issues, using structured diagnostic approaches, observability tooling, and root cause analysis to restore service and prevent recurrence.
- Collaborate across design, implementation, operations, security, OSS / BSS, data, and delivery teams, ensuring adherence to engineering policy, regulatory requirements, and data quality standards.
- Mentor engineers and apprentices, promoting modern engineering practices, reusability, quality, automation, and continuous improvement while constructively challenging outdated approaches.
- Lead and role model adoption of modern engineering techniques, including automation, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD), observability, and reliability?focused practices.
